North Fork Early Learning Center
"A non-profit, state-licensed,
educational program of Family Service League for preschool
children ages 18 months through 5 years. Designed for
flexibility for both parents and children, the North Fork
Early Learning Center is open all year from 7:30am to
5:30pm with full day and half day schedules. The staff
is made up of professionals committed to meeting the emotional
and educational needs of each child through a developmentally
appropriate curriculum and child-centered learning experience.
Learning takes place in the context of a community of
learners. In the classrooms and outside play yard, teachers
and children work together developing positive self image,
self confidence, and a sense of identity establishing
a foundation for academic, emotional and social success.
Planned activities are a part of each day, but children
learn to take an active role in making decisions about
their daily activities as they choose from a variety of
activity centers. Learning also takes place through exploration.
Children are encouraged to explore a variety of activities
and centers, including blocks, dramatic play, circle time,
music, stories, puzzles, cooking, art, clay, play dough,
painting, water and sand, manipulatives, woodworking,
neighborhood exploration, science, bikes, games, parachute
play, climber and slide. Staff works closely with family,
encouraging them to communicate about their child, participate
in parent-teacher conferences, educational workshops,
and help in and around the center. Parents are encouraged
to observe classroom activities and participate in programs."

"The Ecumenical Nursery School is a not-for-profit
nursery school with the individual child in mind. ENS
was organized in 1970 for the purpose of providing pre-school
education for the children of the North Fork in a setting
of love and understanding. There are morning and afternoon
classes for 3 & 4 year olds in both locations. ENS
teachers are experienced, and class size is small with
two teachers to 12 children. The environment is comfortable
with plenty of room to play and a variety of games and
toys inside and outside on the playground. The curriculum
includes: themed lessons that make learning more meaningful;
circle time; show & tell; daily 'jobs' and helping
hands; arts and crafts projects; games and other fun activities.
ENS also has family events, holiday celebrations throughout
the year, class field trips, and snack time. Its goals
are to foster the development of a positive self image;
encourage positive social interaction; develop motor skills,
language, cognitive skills, imagination, creativity and
originality. ENS is a church based, not-for-profit organization,
and tuition is as affordable as possible. Financial aid
is available on a limited basis."

"Children learn
creatively as they explore and play in a creative arts
based environment. As a child centered preschool/summer
camp for ages 2 through 5, we are committed to providing
a safe, comfortable, fun learning program for your child.
Our curriculum is designed to achieve social, emotional,
cognitive and physical growth. During the school year
our nursery and pre-K readiness morning and afternoon
classes participate in Music Together and Handwriting
without Tears. Our summer camp offers six exciting
weekly themes in the mornings (9:30am - 12:15pm), including
Crazee Concoctions, The Royal Court, Splishin and a Splashin,
Construction Zone, Mad Science Discoveries, and Sports
of all Sorts. We offer flexible scheduling and a discount
for those who sign up for four or more full weeks. We
are also offering Handwriting without Tears Camp
from July 28th - Aug 8th for those entering kindergarten.
This is a revolutionary approach to handwriting that incorporates
songs and many manipulatives to gain confidence in letter
writing. Music Together
classes are offered for newborns through six years. Class
choices include Babies Only, Mixed Ages (0-5) and Big
Kids (5 & 6). This is a family-style, research based,
developmentally appropriate program. Also ask about Piano
Kids and our birthday parties! We are members of Suffolk
Child Care Council and NAEYC."

"Riverhead Country Day School provides a high
quality early childhood program for 18 months to 5 year
children in a warm, loving, play environment. We make
every effort to meet each child's individual needs by
offering an educationally sound program as well as providing
a happy secure environment. Children need love and approval.
Each child needs to feel that his own uniqueness has a
valuable place in the world. Riverhead
Country Day School provides a stimulating, developmentally,
hands-on, child-centered curriculum. The following activity
areas are incorporated in our early childhood curriculum;
Language Arts, Art, Science, Math, Dramatic Play, Social
Studies, Music and Movement, Small Motor, and Gross Motor
activities. All of our activities strive to help the young
child become independent and self-sufficient. We encourage
and foster curiosity and creativity. Our teachers act
as facilitators in the learning process. They prepare
the environment for the young child; they question, interact
and talk with the children. They are innovative, creative
and enjoy children. Riverhead Country Day School offers
a full day program. We are open from 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM
to accommodate working parents. We have a toddler group,
ages 18 months to 2 years, as well as 2 year old, 3 year
old and 4 year old classes. We will convey feelings of
love, warmth, security and friendship to your child which
will create an environment that will make your child's
first school experience positive and FUN!"
