Program at Cornell Cooperative Extension of Suffolk
County offers workshops for parents. All workshops
are from 7:00 - 9:00pm at the Kermit W. Graf Building
in Riverhead. Registration is required.

Understanding Temperament
"Ever wonder how children
with the same parents can be so different from one another?
One explanation is temperament. During this workshop the
concept of temperament will be introduced. We will spend
time exploring childrens temperament and how it
may affect behavior."

The Family Table
"Our busy schedules have driven many families away
from the everyday family table. But now more than ever
we need the benefits of gathering together to bond as
a family. Learn how to make your family connection, nutrition,
and well being a priority once again. In this workshop
you'll learn about the benefits of family mealtimes, tips
for getting the family together and prepare a simple nutritious
meal for your family."

Raising Responsible Children
"We all want our children
to grow into being responsible, contributing members of
our families and, ultimately, of society. How do we guide
our children to acquire the necessary skills and motivation?
This workshop for parents of 5 to 12-year-olds will explore
parenting practices that teach children responsibility
for themselves, for their schoolwork, for their home,
and for their relationships."

Active Parenting NOW
"Designed for parents of children
ages 8 to 12, this series teaches parents how to raise
responsible, cooperative children who are prepared to
meet the challenges of the teen years. Parents will learn
positive, non-violent discipline techniques so they can
avoid power struggles. Participants are expected to attend
all sessions."

"Can children cooperate without bribes, rewards
and punishments? Yes! Positive discipline means helping
children learn self-control and problem solving. Discover

Together and Loving It
"This series is designed to help couples build
their relationship skills. The goal is to improve couple
communication, including love languages, provide guidelines
for handling family finances, address anger issues and
conflict resolution, discuss the role of in-laws, extended
family, and other factors that influence the couple relationship.
The last session will focus on parenting together with
an emphasis on discipline and guidance. Couples are expected
to attend all sessions."

Peaceful Meals with Young Children
"Many parents are frustrated
by picky eaters. We will look at different stages of child
development and the feeding relationship between the parent
and child. Well discuss meeting childrens
nutritional needs and how to enjoy stress-free mealtimes.
Lastly, well build meal-planning skills, learn to
improve nutrition while appealing to the preschooler,
and discover strategies to cope with picky eaters. Sessions
will end with sample nutritious meals for the preschooler
prepared by the program participants."

overall well-being, while living in todays fast-paced
culture."

Raising Healthy Children in
an Overweight World
"This workshop has been developed
for parents of children ages 2-12 who have concerns about
their weight. We will discuss causes and consequences
of childhood obesity as well as what families can do to
