Long Island Science Center Halloween event

Long Island Science Center presents The Ultimate Halloween Experiment, a day of interactive fun for the whole family on the weekend before Halloween 2008. The event will consist of several Halloween themed fun and educational hands-on crafts and activities. Children are encouraged to wear their costumes. Prizes will be rewarded for the best dressed.

Workshop Series for Parents to Help Guide Good Choices

Riverhead Community Awareness Program, Inc., (CAP) is offering a free workshop series for parents in the Riverhead Central School District called Guiding Good Choices. During the workshop, parents will learn how to strengthen family bonds and reduce the risk that their children will use alcohol and other drugs.

EEAC Community School of the Arts Celebrates Our Island Home

The East End Arts Council is pleased to announce the start of a brand new early childhood music and movement program with traditional and original songs and rhymes, all geared to inspire awareness and appreciation of our beautiful island home. You, Me & the Sea is designed for ages 18 months to 3 years and will target developmental skills while creating recognition of rhythm and melody. Sing a Song of Seasons is for children ages 3 – 5 and nurtures language and social skills through dancing, instrument exploration and singing. Singer-songwriter and early childhood educator Nancy Lee Baxter will teach classes on Tuesday mornings beginning October 7. Also available is the perfect first experience in visual arts in Preschool Art with favorite art teacher Ms. VC. This class focuses on the “process” of creating art through the introduction to a variety of mediums designed to grow your child’s imaginative and creative skills. Class will be held on Thursday mornings from 9:30 – 10:30 beginning October 16. College Application 101 with Barbara Ackerman and Tom Rabbitt

East End Educational Enrichment Coalition

The East End Educational Enrichment Coalition and the Southold Public Library have announced a seminar called College Application 101 with Barbara Ackerman & Tom Rabbitt on Monday, September 22, 7:30pm in the Southold Free Library.

“High School Seniors! Struggling with the common application, your essay or resume? Ms. Ackerman, retired Guidance Counselor from Southold High School and Mr. Rabbitt, Director of Guidance from Greenport will be on hand to answer questions and offer tips on how to best personalize your college application in ways that will help you to get into the school of your choice.”

Investing for 7-12th Graders

East End Educational Enrichment Coalition

The East End Educational Enrichment Coalition has announced its sponsorship of a series called “Basic Financial Investment Hands On with the Newsday Stockmarket Game” by East End Kids on Mondays, October 6th—December 15th, 5:30 – 6:30 pm at Floyd Memorial Library in Greenport.

The series is for students grades 7 through 12 who want to learn how to invest using the hands-on Newsday Stockmarket Game.

The cost is $10 per student* payable to EEK, P.O. Box 314, East Marion, N.Y. 11939
